Working with schools

Wigan & Leigh Hospice has a fantastic relationship with schools in the borough and enjoys tremendous support from them.

The Hospice is often asked to visit schools or host a tour group of children at the Hospice so that they can learn from an early age what a Hospice is and how their fundraising really helps.

We do this in an open and sensitive way making the topics easy to digest and discuss. Please get in touch if a class from your school would like to visit us.

Helping schools to raise funds

Many schools want to help us perhaps by raising funds, taking part in our fundraising events or visiting the hospice to provide performances. Our patients tell us they really enjoy a visit by a school choir or band.

We also run several activities throughout the year just for schoolchildren, particularly around Christmas. This year schools sold Hospice toys and badges for us and children were invited to 'fill Santa's sleigh with presents' The children sold 10 'presents' at 50p each and each time they sold one coloured in the present on their sheet.
