We would like to thank everyone who supported the Bike Ride in July 2009.
Entry forms for 2010 will soon be available to download from this site.
The ride started at Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United. Over 360 riders in Hospice T-shirts set off at around 8am in fine weather and finished on Blackpool Promenade in glorious sunshine.
Sponsorship Money is still coming in.
HOSPICE SUPPORT
There are many benefits in riding in support of Wigan & Leigh Hospice, not least of which is the fact that all funds are used for the care of local people.
We also try to provide the best support for our riders, through a range of back-up services that include :
- Complimentary T-shirt
- Optional transport for you and your bike from Wigan to the start in Manchester.
- Optional return Transport from Blackpool to Wigan.
- Backup support vehicles providing bike repair, puncture repair, selection of spare wheels, replacement bikes and basic first aid.
- Private refreshment stops en-route.
- Support contact numbers.
INFORMATION
You don't have to be a specialist cyclist to take part. Many retired people and casual cyclists support the event as well as keen riders and club members.
In 2009 our Chief Executive rode a specially constructed tandem, accompanied by a man who has been blind since his teens...

YOU CAN DO IT
If you feel that 100k (or around 60 miles) is too far, we can assure you that the ride is not too demanding. Anyone with a reasonable degree of fitness and who takes it at a reasonable pace should be able to complete the ride.
It's a fact! Healthy exercise for half an hour 5 times a week is enough to:
• Halve the risk of coronary heart disease
• Improve co-ordination, flexibility, stamina and energy
• Reduce the chance of developing Type 11 diabetes
• Cut the risk of suffering a stroke by one third
• Maintain weight loss
• Ease depression and anxiety
Cycling is a healthy pursuit, however the organisers cannot be held responsible for personal injury, accident, loss, damage or public liability. Riders under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
