light for a life appeal

'Light for a Life' provides and opportunity to celebrate the life our loved ones by dedicating a light to go on the giant Christmas tree in the Hospice grounds over the Christmas period. All dedications are also entered into a book that is on permanent display in the Hospice Chapel. DEDICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE TWELFTH NIGHT AFTER CHRISTMAS

We would like to express our appreciation to the thousands of people who supported our Light for a Life Appeal in 2011. Despite the difficult economic climate, the appeal raised approximately £55,000 in donations from members of the public.

WHAT IS LIGHT FOR A LIFE?

Every year, a giant Christmas tree is erected in the Hospice Grounds opposite Reception and lights are dedicated to celebrate the lives of our loved ones.

The Book of Dedications will be displayed in the Hospice Chapel
from mid-February.

Dedicating a light to someone special is a perfect, simple and emotive way of saying ‘THANK YOU’.

TO WHOM ARE LIGHTS DEDICATED?
Many people think that the scheme is only for people who have passed away and connected in some way with the Hospice. That is not the case. Anyone can dedicate lights to family, friends, neighbours... whether at home or far away.

CELEBRATE A LIFE
Why not celebrate the lives of people important to you. In addition to those who have gone before, it can be a new life, a personal celebration – for example a wedding, special anniversary, exam success – or a thank you for some good deed etc., there is no restriction. Whatever is important to you.

WHAT DOES IT COST?
We don’t as for a specific figure. Many people consider it as a form of ‘present’ and donate a similar amount.

HOW LONG DOES THE SCHEME RUN?
This year leaflets and forms will be available from Early October 2012 and you can dedicate lights until the Twelfth Night after Christmas.
