Sarah Owen talks about the hospice's range of training courses for healthcare professionals

Training courses

Wigan & Leigh Hospice provides training programmes aimed at educating and informing healthcare professionals about aspects of palliative care.

The courses are designed to help a range of healthcare professionals better understand issues associated with specialist palliative care - these include communications, ethics, bereavement, loss, and - of course - what palliative care actually is.

Who are the courses for?

The courses are aimed at nurses, doctors, social workers and healthcare assistants.

What do they cost?

Two of the courses incur a charge to cover the purchase and provision of materials or where they lead to a qualification. The other courses are free; however there is an administration fee of £30 per person attached.

As a centre of excellence for specialist palliative care, the courses enable us to share our knowledge and experience - and help healthcare professionals become more confident in dealing with people who are at the end of their lives.
