The Lottery Winners sign up for the Leigh Community 10k

13 July 2017

LEIGH band The Lottery Winners will be performing at the first Leigh Community 10K on Sunday, August 13th.

The Indie pop four-piece will play a set in their hometown on a stage in front of Leigh Town Hall to entertain runners and supporters at the first Leigh Community 10K.

The band was signed by music mogul Seymour Stein, who is also responsible for the careers of Madonna, Talking Heads and the Ramones after they performed at Liverpool's Sound City festival in 2016.

Wigan and Leigh Hospice is the official charity for the Leigh Community 10K and people are being encouraged to raise sponsorship money for the hospice which provides palliative and end of life care for over 1,000 local people every year.

Fundraising and Events Manager for Wigan and Leigh Hospice, Maxine Armstrong, said: "We are over the moon that The Lottery Winners have agreed to play at the first Leigh Community 10k. They are a fantastic local band who are really going places and will help us make the atmosphere really special on the day.
"Over 300 people have already registered to take part in the run which is three laps within the town centre. The route is flat so will appeal to runners hoping to get a coveted Personal Best but people are also more than welcome to jog or walk."

Also entertaining the crowds will be:

• North West Search for a Star finalist Zoe Unsworth from Leigh. Pop and soul singer Zoe has performed at a varying of events including the RFL Magic Weekend, in Wigan Town Centre for the Olympic Torch Celebrations, at Leigh town centre Christmas lights switch-on and is due to perform at Wigan Pride next month.

• Stetsons Electric have been a long-standing part of the local music scene in Wigan Borough, most recently performing at the re-birth of popular local music festival, Haigh Fest. They are Revolution Battle of the Bands winners and are comprised of three local lads from Wigan.

• Twelve-year-old Natalie Kamhiriri blew the audience away when she sang at the Hospice Ball in April this year. The talented schoolgirl from Leigh has been singing for as long as she can remember and counts her musical influences as Adele and Whitney Houston.

• The Lowtones will be playing a range of classic hits from the 60s.

• The Vicious Circle will be playing a blend of original and covers of Indie Rock songs. Their range includes a wide range of styles from The Beatles right up to Green Day and The Arctic Monkeys.

The Leigh Community 10k has been organised through a partnership between Inspiring healthy lifestyles, FCR Events Ltd., Leigh Harriers, Nectar Creative, Wigan and Leigh Hospice and Wigan Council.

Funds raised for Wigan and Leigh Hospice will go towards the Counting on Care appeal to modernise the 14-bed inpatient unit and make it dementia-friendly.

The Leigh Community 10k starts at 9.30am and there will be musical entertainment from 10am until 3pm with a pause during the medal ceremony.
