Rose has lung cancer and brain cancer. She visits the Oak Centre twice a week.
She said: “I heard about the Open Week at the Oak Centre through Facebook and planned to go to see if I liked it. I told myself I’d go on the Monday but I didn’t and the weather was terrible on the Tuesday but I came in on the last day – on the Wednesday. I met new people and we didn’t talk about being ill.
“Now, I go to craft on a Monday where I have made Easter cards, done painting and made a model. I’ve never done anything like that before but it was really enjoyable. I also have complementary therapy and I’m looking forward to doing some gardening. I’ve never really enjoyed gardening before but I’m going to give it a try while I’m here.
“I just wait for Monday and Wednesday coming around. The staff are good and the volunteers are too.
“I had no support from other organisations before coming to the Oak Centre. This came at the right time for me. I would say if you’re thinking of coming to the Oak Centre just say come.”
