Judges & Compere

Our Compere – Andrew Thrower

Andrew from Preston is Sales Director for a Finance Provider.

He is married to Amy and they have three children: Phoebe, Heidi & Jenson.

He said: “Having danced and competed for most of our lives it is a skill and experience that we enjoy using to give back where possible. Strictly is a great event to get regular people out of their comfort zone to help them grow as individuals whilst raising money for a great cause.”

Andrew started dancing age 5, won The British Open Championships at 11 and has represented Great Britain many times. He has been a qualified professional, teacher, lecturer and adjudicator now for 10 years.

Judge – Amy Pedder (now Thrower)

Amy is the owner of AA Dance Events and is married to compere Andrew.

She started danving at age 5, won The British Closed Youth Championships at just 15 and has represented Great Britain many times including on the British Team with Andrew when they were 11. She has been a qualified professional, teacher, lecturer and adjudicator now for 10 years.

She said: “Having danced and competed for most of our lives it is a skill and experience that we enjoy using to give back where possible. Strictly is a great event to get regular people out of their comfort zone to help them grow as individuals whilst raising money for a great cause.”

Judge – Nigel Horrocks

Nigel started dancing at age 10 and was inspired to dance in competitions less than a year later, which saw him launch a lifelong career in Ballroom & Latin American dancing. On top of dancing in many major competitions, he was also asked to represent England in the original TV series ‘Come Dancing’, all before setting up his own dance school at just 21 years of age.

In addition to running his dance school, Nigel has spent most of his adult life organising many competitions and major dancing events throughout the UK and Europe, and adjudicating all over the world. Nigel has served as Chairman of the Dance Promoters Association for more than 14 years and more recently has taken the role of Honorary President within the association and is also an Honorary Member of the British Dance Council.

Although semi-retired, Nigel is still very present within the dancing world and he continues to promote events, adjudicate and support others in their dancing careers.

Judge – Hayley Draper

Previous All England & UK Closed Champion, Hayley has run a successful dance school based in Sheffield since retiring from competing some 20 years ago. Now teaching, alongside adjudicating competitions, running a dance school, and overseeing the training schedule of her dancer son, keeps all day every day filled with dance.
