About us
Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a well-established charity which has been operating since 1983. We provide a wide range of palliative care services to people with advancing life-limiting illnesses of any diagnosis and to those people important to them. The support we offer is tailored to meet individuals’ physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs.

About the role
We are currently looking to appoint a HR Manager to deliver a high quality HR service which improves worker experience and provides effective support and development for managers, whilst leading on professional advice of employment matters and supporting the work of the Director of People and Operations. You will be responsible for providing visible and effective leadership within the hospice, overseeing the HR, voluntary services and reception functions, whilst ensuring HR practices manage risk, are compliant with the appropriate legislation/standards and treat employees and volunteers fairly.

The successful candidate will hold associate or chartered membership with the CIPD whilst having HR management experience, up to date and extensive knowledge of employment legislation and best practice, a coaching and values led leadership style and experience of day to day and high level casework, covering the full employment lifecycle; disciplinary, grievance, appeal, sickness management, flexible working, recruitment and selection, redundancy, TUPE.

You will line manage a small team who support a workforce of 120 staff and 500 volunteers who are all key to the service we deliver to our patients. Communication skills and relationship building are essential within this role together with project management experience.

The available role
We are looking to appoint to one person working up to 37 hours per week. Working hours are usually 8.30am-4.30pm (4pm on Fridays) however on occasion you will be required to support the hospice slightly earlier / later than this.
