About the role
Wigan & Leigh Hospice is committed to providing outstanding care to its patients and their loved ones. The Service User Champion Group is a wonderful team of volunteers who come together to share insights about the Hospice’s work and explore ways that can improve it even further.
Our Service User Champions are here to offer support and attentively listen to the experiences of others, while also sharing their own valuable insights. Your input will be extremely valuable to the hospice as we look to make thoughtful choices about future service improvements.
The skills you need
It’s important that you have experienced hospice services as either a patient or a loved one of a patient. We’re thrilled to welcome applications from people with a variety of skills and experiences! Don’t worry if you have no experience; we’ll take care of everything with complete training!
We truly appreciate team players who are eager to learn and can proudly represent the Hospice while embodying our Values, which include Compassion, Accessibility, Respect, and Excellence.
We would love to hear from if you are:
- Great at expressing ideas clearly in different situations.
- A warm, kind, and considerate nature. You’ll be easy to approach.
- Dependable and trustworthy.
- Embrace a variety of perspectives on how to live life.
- Great at listening; open to sharing your own experiences and thoughts.
- Dedicated to improving Hospice services.
What you’ll gain
As a Service User Champion, you’ll not only gain new skills, confidence, and social networks; you’ll be making a difference in your local community and helping to make a difference at Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
Time commitment
We welcome applicants who can commit to:
- Attend four meetings every year, each taking place quarterly. Typically lasting two hours.
- Actively reviewing minutes and agendas to prepare for the meetings and support the activities that result from them.
- Open to participating in specific projects or activities.
How we will support you
We’re delighted to provide you with training that will help you start off your volunteer role on the right foot! You’ll also receive a complete induction, during which you’ll learn all about our services and get to meet the key people you’ll be working with closely.
Other things you’ll need to know
- This is an unpaid voluntary role, but typically the Hospice will help with your expenses.
The role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check, which the Hospice will organise for you.
