£10,000 boost for the Hospice

A defence company based in Lostock for over 70 years has donated over £10,000 to Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

MBDA Missile Systems, a supplier to companies including BAE Systems, donated £10,967.50 to the Hindley-based Hospice which cares for people with life-limiting illnesses across Wigan and Leigh.

The funds were raised at a company dinner in 2014 when over £130,000 was raised and split between various charities.

Logistics Apprentice and charity team leader, Anna Schlautmann, said: "Half of the money raised from the dinner goes to armed forces charities and the rest is split between local charities selected by each of the three MBDA sites in the UK. A lot of our employees come from Wigan so every other year we give to Wigan and Leigh Hospice."

The charity team fundraises for the Hospice throughout the year.

Maxine Armstrong, Fundraising and Lottery Manager, said: "On behalf of the patients, staff and volunteers at the Hospice I would like to say how grateful we are to MBDA for their generous donation."
