Big Give doubles Hospice donations for new patient entrance

16 December 2015

Thanks to supporters of Wigan and Leigh Hospice, The Big Give’s annual Christmas Challenge has raised over £45,400 for a new patient entrance at the Hospice.

Over just two days in early December, the Hospice raised £25,441 from online donations. The majority of donations were then doubled by The Big Give through match funding by local businesses pledges, corporate sponsors and individuals.

To qualify for the match funding, donations had to be made through The Big Give website at 12pm on 4th December and 5th December, before the available match funding ran out.

All donations made to the Hospice will go towards building a new patient entrance directly into the In-Patient Unit at the Hospice, improving patient dignity.

Dr Alan Baron, Chief Executive of Wigan and Leigh Hospice, said: "The Big Give's annual Christmas Challenge provides us with a massive fundraising boost and the people of Wigan and Leigh really showed us their support

"This is a huge challenge as funds are allocated on a first come, first served basis and so we are really grateful to everyone who logged on to make a donation to support the Hospice and our project to build a new patient entrance."
