What we can sell

What we can sell

Our shops sell a wide range of pre-owned goods including clothes, bric-a-brac, games, ornaments, furniture, electrical goods, books, mobile phones and CDs.

We rely on the generosity of local people in donating items and buying goods from our shops.

We are always grateful for donations of goods which still have life in them and can be sold onto our customers to raise funds for the hospice.

We respectfully ask you not to donate items which are broken or so well-used that they cannot be sold. It costs the hospice money to dispose of these items responsibly and this is money which is much better spent on supporting our patients.

If you are unsure whether or not your item can be re-sold please ask one of our volunteers.

Thank You

Bulky items

If you have furniture you would like to donate, or an item which is too bulky for you to take to one of our shops, please telephone us on 01942 525566 so that we can arrange a collection.

We can only take furniture if it has a label attached that confirms an item meets UK safety standards.

Under the Furniture and Furnishings Fire Safety Regulations 1998 used furniture must meet the same standards as new furniture for sale.

The regulations cover the flammability of upholstered furniture including beds, sofa beds, cots, cushions and mattresses. Furniture and mattresses that meet the requirements of the regulations will feature permanent labels which will be sewn into or stapled to the item.

Items which meet the requirements will usually carry a permanent label with the heading 'Carelessness causes fire'.

Mattresses and upholstered bed bases must be in good clean condition and have a fire label sewn in which refers to British Standard BS7177.

If you are looking to buy furniture most of our shops carry some furniture, however,we have dedicated furniture shops; on Lord Street in Leigh, and another in Standish.  These shops carry our widest selection of furniture.

We are sorry but we are unable to accept dark wood furniture. We have found that we are unable to re-sell these items.

We always welcome clothing donations. Even if the clothing is torn and old, we can recycle it and still benefit from a little extra income.

Our brand new "Occasions" department in Wigan also sells bridal dresses and mother-of-the-bride outfits as well as Prom, evening and cruise wear.

We sell a variety of good quality electrical items, which we test for safety prior to sale including hairdryers, kettles, toasters, vacuum cleaners, lawnmowers, lamps, CD players and televisions.

Unfortunately we cannot accept older types of televisions or televisions without Freeview. If you have any questions your local Hospice shop will be able to tell you which we can and cannot take.
