Shevington Volunteer Shop Assistant

About us

Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a well-established charity which has been operating since 1983. We provide a wide range of palliative care services to people with advancing life-limiting illnesses of any diagnosis and to those people important to them. The support we offer is tailored to meet individuals’ physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs

Many services provided by Wigan & Leigh Hospice are dependent on the goodwill of our generous volunteers.

About the role

We are looking for a number of Volunteer Shop Assistants to work in our 13 shops across the Borough, raising income to fund the care we provide to local people.

As a Volunteer Shop Assistant you will work under the guidance of a Coordinator with support from the hospice retail team. A typical day will involve unlocking / locking the shop, taking telephone calls, using a till, replenishing stock and ensuring the shop is displayed in a presentable way to optimise income generation. You will chat to the customers and assist with their purchases.

The role requires an approachable, friendly individual who ensures confidentiality and respect whilst being an excellent communicator.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum of a half day shift per week. The vacancies we have currently are in our Shevington shop between Monday – Friday 9.30 – 3.30 & Saturday 9.30 – 12.30
