Wigan & Leigh Hospice provides specialist care and support to people across the borough who are living with a life-limiting illness. Every year, we care for more than 1,400 local people, as well as those closest to them.
We are a registered charity, and we rely on the generosity of our community to continue delivering our services. While we receive some funding from the NHS, we currently need to raise more than £13,000 every single day to keep our care free and accessible to those who need it most.
Your support helps us be there – not just at the end of life, but throughout the journey.
Wigan & Leigh Hospice is a charity providing expert care and support to people living with a life-limiting illness.
Our team is highly skilled in palliative and end-of-life care, and we are committed to delivering the highest standard of support to our patients. We take a holistic approach, addressing the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of each individual.
We also offer support to those closest to our patients, recognising the vital role families and loved ones play in their care journey. Our services are available to people with a wide range of life-limiting conditions, including – but not limited to – cancer, respiratory diseases, heart conditions, and neurological disorders.
Patients can’t refer themselves to the hospice. They need to be referred by a healthcare professional, such as a GP, district nurse, hospital consultant, or another community-based clinician.
Three of our wonderful volunteers – Vicky from Sri Lanka, and Liubov and Viktoriia from Ukraine, are volunteers at our charity superstore on Robin Retail Park. Here, they tell us how their volunteering roles have supported them to not only develop their English language skills, but to make friends in their local area too.
June lives with MND and has received assistance from both our Hospice in your Home and complementary therapy team here at the hospice for two years. Here, June shares her story with the help of her husband, Colin.
