Volunteer with us

Make a difference in your community

Volunteering is a meaningful way to spend your time – whether you’re looking to meet new people, give back, or develop new skills.

As a local charity, we rely on the incredible support of our community to provide all hospice services free of charge to those who need them.

We’re proud to have over 500 amazing volunteers supporting the hospice – and we’re always looking to welcome more people to our team.

Please note: To volunteer with us, you must be 18 years or older. Unfortunately, we’re unable to accept applications from anyone under this age

Types of volunteer positions

We offer a wide variety of volunteer roles – both within the hospice and out in the community. Opportunities include:

  • Helping in one of our 11 shops across the borough.
  • Making drinks for patients in our Inpatient Unit.
  • Supporting our fundraising team.
  • Working on reception or assisting with admin.
  • Helping with general maintenance or gardening.
  • Assisting in the kitchen.
  • And much more!

Even if you can only volunteer one day a week – or just once a month – we’re incredibly grateful for your time and support.

The hospice

Start your volunteering journey with confidence

To welcome you to Team Hospice and ensure a smooth start, all volunteers receive a full induction and complete mandatory training. You’ll also be given role-specific guidance to help you feel confident and supported in your chosen area.

Getting started is simple – just complete an application form and we’ll be in touch. You’ll then be invited to visit the hospice, meet our Volunteer Co-ordinator, and learn more about the role.

Please note: for certain positions, a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required before you begin. All roles also require reference checks.

Volunteer through your workplace

Does your workplace or business offer time for volunteering?

We welcome teams and individuals to spend that time supporting the hospice – whether it’s helping in one of our eleven shops, maintaining our grounds, or assisting at fundraising events.

Celebrating our volunteers

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do – and we never take their support for granted. Whether someone has been with us for years or is just starting out, we make sure every volunteer feels appreciated, recognised, and part of Team Hospice.

Throughout the year, we celebrate the incredible contributions of our volunteers in many ways – from thank-you events and long-service awards to everyday gestures of appreciation.

Our celebrations give us the chance to come together, share stories, and reflect on the difference our volunteers make in the lives of patients and families.

We’re proud of the compassion, dedication, and spirit our volunteers bring – and we’re committed to making their experience as rewarding as possible.
