I did it for Grandma

12 Year old Birchall High School pupil Owen Ahrens who lives in Hindley, has raised £90 for Wigan & Leigh Hospice on a sponsored 5K run.

Owen said, "My grandma Doreen Ahrens passed away at Wigan & Leigh Hospice.  They were so kind to her and looked after her so well that I wanted to raise some money for them."

Keen sportsman

Owen loves football and plays on the wing for Winwick Football Club under 13s.  The team recently were chosen to represent the Cheshire League in a national 'Aces Tournament', involving teams from all over England.  They reached the final, losing 1-0 to Northampton.  Owen's ambitions include taking over from his football idol Steven Gerrard atLiverpool.

Dad Gary added, "Mum received wonderful care from the Hospice and we are thrilled that Owen chose to raise money for them."

Hilda Barton and Wendy Lowe were two of the nursing team who helped to care for Doreen.  They said, "Owen is a lovely young man and we are thrilled at the effort he has put in to raise money for the Hospice.   We wish him well with all his ambitions; he says he will still talk to us when he is famous!  The money Owen has raised will be used to continue providing specialist care for others who are in need of Hospice services.  Thank you Owen."
