Hospice Community Group to undertake Himalayas trek.

Hospice Community Group to undertake Himalayas trek.

01 August 2012

A group of individuals so inspired by the work of Wigan and Leigh Hospice that they have decided to undertake a mammoth 5 day Himalayas Trek challenge to raise funds and awareness.

Emma Poliand Denise Atherton decided they wanted to leave a living legacy to a charity close to their hearts and set about creating a motivated team of individuals who would together undertake the challenge to mark the 30th anniversary year. Both ladies have had first hand experience of the support given both to patients and their families and wanted to give something back to others in their local community when they need it most.

Team work

Emma who is a fitness trainer then set about  forming a group who were committed enough to undertake this gruelling fitness challenge and set up a series of fundraising events with a target of  £20000 . Emma said 'At first this seemed like a daunting task but as a team we worked out how we could achieve our fundraising goal for the Hospice but also fit in the time to train for what will be the physical challenge of a lifetime for those involved'. Denise said 'I have personal experience of the valuable the support that the Hospice provides not only for their patients but also for the challenges faced by their families. Julie Houston community support officer at the Hospice was so inspired she has decided to join the group on their challenge of a lifetime.
