Volunteers & Jobs
Volunteers play a massive part in Wigan and Leigh Hospice's success. More than 800 people give us some of their time, helping out with many aspects of running the Hospice.
We benefit from around 100,000 'donated hours' every year. The financial benefit of this is the equivalent of saving of around £1m in our annual running costs. We simply couldn't provide all the services we do 24/7 without the relentless support of our volunteers.
Why volunteer at Wigan and Leigh Hospice?
When you volunteer you become part of a team helping the Hospice to provide care free of charge to patients with a life-limiting illness.
Volunteering is a rewarding way to spend your spare time, a great way to meet new people and an opportunity to develop new skills.
How you can help
There are many different volunteer roles in the hospice and out in the community. For example, all of our Hospice shops are fully staffed by hard-working, dedicated volunteers. Volunteers help us with roles including:
- Bereavement support
- Reception duties
- In-patient Unit support
- Our 13 shops (including etsy)
- General maintenance
- Driving our vans or being a drivers' mate
- Crafts or sharing other skills with patients, such as embroidery or card-making
- Kitchen support
- Hospice In Your Home companion
For more details on these roles please see our Volunteering Roles section.
Everyone can help
Most of our volunteering roles don't require specialist skills although sometimes a little training or orientation is required and will be provided. If you do have specialist skills and want to apply those, please let us know.
