How do I talk to my loved ones about what I want when I die?

How can I make sure my final wishes are respected?

Do you have questions about planning for your future care or that of a loved one?

Everyone is welcome to our informal drop-in event ‘Plan for tomorrow: live for today’ taking place at the hospice which aims to answer questions you may have about death, dying and difficult conversations.

Debbie Jones, Manager of the Practice Development team at the hospice, said: “Conversations about death and dying can be hard but we know there are people out there who need to think about this – and want to talk about it. For those people living with long-term conditions and their carers this event will help them to plan for future care and they’ll learn how they can ensure that their wishes and preferences for end of life are heard.”

On the day

There will be:

  • Conversations for Life: questions and starting conversations with a loved one
  • What’s Important to Me: Hear from two people who have made formal plans about what they want when they are dying
  • Brew and a Chat: Cake, tea and chat about death, dying and what you want at the end of your life
  • Make a Wish: what is important to you at the end of your life? what’s on your bucket list?

A trained counsellor and hospice staff will be in attendance.

When and where

The event takes place on Tuesday, May 3rd 10am – 12noon at the Oak Centre, Wigan and Leigh Hospice, Hindley.

Booking is not necessary and parking is free of charge.

This event is held as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week (May 2 – 6). Dying Matters Week is a national campaign to get people talking about death, dying and grief. This year the focus is on being in a good place when you die.
