Role: Bank Receptionist
Salary: An hourly rate of £12.70 per hour
Closing date: 29/10/2025

About the role
The successful candidate will carry out a key role at the hospice. You will greet visitors at reception, guide and support a team of fantastic volunteers and run a busy switchboard whilst ensuring rotas are maintained for two receptions within the hospice, one of which operates 7 days a week.

The role requires an excellent communicator who is able to adapt their communication style to support the person they are speaking to. You will deliver a positive and supportive service to visitors, volunteers and staff whilst ensuring reception remains a welcoming and calm environment.

You will be able to react to events decisively, effectively, and without prior thought whilst maintaining the support and commitment from the reception team (40 volunteers). The role works closely with all teams across the hospice so it is important to be able to build effective working relationships in a short space of time.

As receptionist you could be speaking to a patient/relative, bereaved visitors, maintaining the switchboard during working hours (which receives advice line calls for other teams 24/7), taking bookings for the van collection and delivery diary, accepted deliveries and processing sales from the café/shop on the till.

The role is varied and will require someone with a wider business understanding to ensure smooth service delivery. A basic understanding of Outlook and Word are required although computer work will be kept to a minimum. A key aspect of this role is communication and ensuring the wider reception team are kept up to date on hospice developments via handover processes.

A Disclosure and Barring Services Check (DBS) will be required.
