Tom Kelly

23 March 2012

For some of us, pulling ourselves out of a comfy chair is enough after a hard day; but not for Tom Kelly from Wigan…

61 year old Tom likes adventure and loves a challenge. When he was 18 he hitch-hiked around Europe, including Italy, Greece, France and Spain.

Tom says, "My experiences were great for character building and broadening my outlook on life. However, like many others, getting married and having children, changes priorities."

Tom has now got the wanderlust again for a tour of Europe:beginning in sunny Wigan and culminating on a beach in Turkey, where he has a holiday apartment.

His journey this time will be via Rotterdam, the Rhine Valley, Holland, Germany, Bavaria, the Danube, Austria, Hungary, Rumania, the Black Sea, Northern Turkey and culminating at his apartment on Calis Beach in Fethiye. However it is not by plane, coach or train.

Despite arthritis in his knees; on 10th April Tom is cycling alone the whole way and is planning to be sunning himself on the beach by the end of May.

He adds, "Proceeds from sponsorship will be equally divided between Wigan & Leigh Hospice and a Children's charity in Turkey that supports disadvantaged children. It was set-up by English 'expats'."
