Pedalling for Patient Care!

08 August 2013

On Sunday 14th July nearly 350 riders pedalled 63 miles from Manchester to Blackpool on behalf of the Hospice, raising thousands of pounds in the process.

Despite the distance, a wide range of age groups and abilities take part - this year our youngest rider was 13 and our oldest 72!

The glorious weather and happy faces enhanced a great day of fun and fellowship, with riders enjoying the terrific sensation of the cheering crowds lining the finish on Blackpool Promenade.

We're really proud of the support we provide for our riders, which includes refreshment stops along the way as well as our stall at the finish line, where there's more food and of course the all-important medals! We also have our maintenance vans out along the route, so if anyone breaks down along the way, help is always at hand. A lot of volunteers, staff and Trustees put a great deal of effort into providing all this support, and it was wonderful to receive this lovely letter from one satisfied rider, Geoff Swift:

"I've just completed my inaugural Manchester to Blackpool bike ride to raise funds for the Hospice and I just wanted to say how very impressed I was with the whole set-up, organisation and support that the volunteers have given both today and also undoubtedly in the run-up to the event.

Everything went like clockwork and the reception that we got at the Aspull, Preston and Blackpool stages was nothing short of brilliant.  Not only were the refreshment points excellently positioned and incredibly well stocked, but all the volunteers that manned the stations were very welcoming, professional and supportive.

We had a totally fantastic day (the weather helped a little!) and will look forward to participating for many more years to come."

Sincere thanks to everyone who was involved in any way for supporting the Hospice in our Pearl Anniversary year - and if you didn't take part this year, maybe your appetite has been whetted! If so, look out for the details on the website nearer the time (July again) and also in the Spring 2014 newsletter.
