Summer Tractor Parade

29 August 2013

For many people, seeing tractors in a field is as close as we get to these magnificent machines.

Many of us are unaware of the technology and sophistication of these agricultural leviathans.  The word 'tractor' comes from a Latin word meaning 'to pull', and most town dwellers have little idea of the size, power and versatility of the modern day machines.

On Sunday, 25th August over 30 of these 'mean machines' congregated at Aspull Rugby Union Club, before parading through the streets to the Hospice for photo-call with patients.

Pulling power! Some of the tractors from the parade.

After the parade, they all parked up back at the Rugby Club creating an impressive sight for the visitors, who also enjoyed the Bouncy Castles, Merry-go-Round, refreshments and much more.

Organisers Pat and Mick McElchare said "Some of the tractors on display were new, or nearly new, whilst others were vintage and immaculately restored.  Some were worth many thousands of pounds, capable of performing a variety of roles. These majestic machines are a sight to behold.  Last year was the first time we had done anything of this nature and its success has encouraged us to make it bigger and better' this year."

All proceeds from the Day were be donated to Wigan & Leigh Hospice, so a huge thank-you to Pat and Mick and everyone else involved with this fantastic event.
