ORGANISERS of a coffee morning have donated over £700 to the Counting on Care appeal for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Coffee kick-start for Counting on Care appealEmily White, Deltair Parkinson, Richie Currie and Joe Calderbank from Shevington organised a coffee and cake morning with a raffle and tombola at Shevington Conservative Club on September 26th.

Supported by friends, family and the local community the group raised £735 for the appeal which aims to raise a minimum of £60,000 towards the cost of modernising the inpatient unit and making it dementia-friendly.

The group found out about the new appeal when they visited the Hospice to hand deliver the donation. Upon hearing about the Hospice's plans for the Inpatient Unit they decided to donate to the Counting on Care appeal.

Mr Calderbank said: "We wanted the money we raised to go to towards funding nursing in the local area and with us donating to the Hospice we know that local people will benefit.
"We wanted to know exactly where the money was going so when we came in and were told about the appeal it was exactly what we were looking for.
"I have used the Day Hospice myself and my sister sadly died in the Hospice last year and the staff were absolutely brilliant with her. I think everybody in Wigan has had some dealing with the Hospice - it's a special place."
