SLIMMERS from Leigh are shaping up to lose pounds and raise funds on a walk in their onesies for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Nine slimmers who attend Slimming World classes at Kingsleigh Methodist Church on King Street are taking part in the Hospice Onesie Walk starting at 10pm on Saturday, June 14th.

Women from across the borough will wear their onesies and walk 10km across Wigan in order to raise funds for the Hospice which provides palliative care free of charge for people with life-limiting illnesses living in Wigan and Leigh.

Zoe Turner, 40, from Leigh attends the Slimming World class every Monday and will be wearing her leopard print onesie.

She said: "A friend of mine recently lost her mum who was cared for by the Hospice so I know how good the care is. I read up on how much funding the Hospice needs so when the opportunity came up to do the Onesie Walk I wanted to help."

Andrea Eckersley, 38, from Leigh said: "The Onesie Walk will help us to get fit and so many of us from Slimming World are getting involved I wanted to do it too. I'm not aiming to complete it in a certain time, I just want to have a good time and raise money for a local charity."

Slimming World Consultant, Lesley Prendergast, said: "It's important for us to raise money for our local charities which is why we have taken part in the Hospice walk for the last couple of years.

"It's a good way of keeping fit, having fun and supporting a local charity."

Fundraising Manager for Wigan and Leigh Hospice, Maxine Armstrong, said: "We want to make this a memorable evening so we're encouraging women to wear their onesies although it is not essential to wear one - we simply want everyone to have a fantastic time while raising money for the Hospice."

The Onesie Walk is sponsored by The Galleries shopping centre which will be offering refreshments on the route.

Entry forms for the Hospice Onesie Walk starting at 10pm on Saturday, June 14th are available from www.wlh.org.uk or by calling the Fundraising team on 01942 525566. Entry closes on Wednesday, June 4th.
