A HGV driver from Leigh has shown his love for Wigan and Leigh Hospice by getting a tattoo of the charity’s logo on his leg.

Driver gets inked for the Hospice

Steve Stockley, 45, visited Cut-Throat Tattoo Studio on Warrington Road, Leigh, on April 4th when he got the design inked onto his left calf.

Steve, who works for Norbert Dentressangle in Leigh, has raised hundreds of pounds for the Hospice by completing three Manchester to Blackpool bike rides.

The dad-of-two said: "I've got tattoos already I just thought I'd get some done for charities I like. I don't know why but it did really hurt having it done on my calf! My friends and family like them - my eldest son has just started having tattoos and wife just had her first tattoo a month ago.
"My friend did the bike ride five years ago and before the next ride my wife's friend died in the Hospice so since then I've been riding for Jean Hull and this year will be the fourth time I've done the bike ride."

The keen cyclist has this year convinced several people he works with to join him on the journey from Manchester to Blackpool's South Shore which this year takes place on Sunday, July 12th.

However, Steve and his work colleagues will not only be doing the 63 mile route from Manchester to Blackpool but will be doubling their efforts by cycling from Leigh to Manchester and back to Leigh again once they reach Blackpool.

He said: "It's a good day out, you just get into conversations with everyone and all sorts of people take part. We are doing it a bit different this year - we're going from Leigh to Manchester then to Blackpool and back to Leigh again so we'll be doing about 120 miles in all."

Steve also had a Help the Heroes tattoo and an Autism Society tattoo inked at Cut-Throat Tattoo Studio on April 4th.
