Light for a Life launches

29 September 2015

The lives of loved ones across Wigan Borough are being marked as Light for a Life launches at Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Dedications for Light for a Life can now be made at the Hospice as a meaningful way to remember someone special or to give thanks.

Every year, thousands of local people dedicate a light for a loved one on the Hospice's Christmas Tree. Names are also entered into the Book of Dedications as a permanent tribute.

A ceremony will be held in December when hundreds of local people will see the Christmas Tree lights switched-on at the Hospice.

Alan Baron, Chief Executive of Wigan and Leigh Hospice, said: "By making a dedication, Light for a Life is a chance to give thanks, to celebrate a special event - such as a birth or an anniversary - or remember a loved one.

"It is not only for those who have a connection to the Hospice, but is for anyone who would like to make a dedication to someone they love, or have loved."

The Light for a Life ceremony will be held at the Hospice on Kildare Street at 6.30pm on Tuesday 1st December although dedications can continue to be made until the twelfth night after Christmas.

Dedications can be made by downloading a form. Forms are also available from Wigan and Leigh Hospice shops, some GP and dentist surgeries and other locations around Wigan Borough. A separate form should be completed for each dedication.

The Book of Dedications will be printed as a bound hard-backed book and will be on permanent display in the Hospice from March, along with every other Book of Dedications since the scheme began in 1998.
