GENEROUS staff working for a Wigan event management firm have raised over £1,000 for Wigan and Leigh Hospice by giving up their tips.

Staff give up tips for Hospice

Bar staff from Barcode Event Staffing working for Wigan-based Central Catering Services raised £1,084.43 by donating all the tips they earned from catering Christmas parties at Aintree Racecourse and Tatton Park.

Central Catering Services - which operates and manages food and bar concessions at festivals including Latitude, V Festival, Reading and Leeds - chooses a charity to help every year and this year chose to support the Hospice and the Stonehouse Project.

Kate Pennington, concessions assistant, said: "More or less everyone who works at the company comes from Wigan and the company is based in Wigan but we usually give our tips to charities based where the event is taking place. This year our Director Becky Howarth suggested we should donate to a local charity and we chose the Hospice as one of two we would support.
"I have had family who were cared for by the Hospice so when I found out we were giving to the Hospice I was really happy about that."

The company on Martland Park employs 23 full-time staff but takes on extra staff during the summer months during festival season and over Christmas to cater for work parties.

Manager Jodie Ince with Kate, Stephanie Ince and Charlie Ince-Burke arranged the tip collection.

Stephanie Ince, concessions accounts, said: "We were really surprised and happy about how much we raised, we haven't raised that much before, but I think because we were raising money for small local charities it made all the difference."
