A TEENAGER from Leigh has completed three marathons within a month.

Three marathons in a month

Eighteen-year-old Amy Hayes ran the Greater Manchester marathon on April 19th followed by the London Marathon just a week later in aid of Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Finally, on May 17th Amy, a theatre assistant at Wrightington Hospital, faced her third marathon- the Brathay Windermere Marathon - in Cumbria.

Amy completed the Greater Manchester Marathon in 3 hours 24 minutes, the London Marathon in 3 hours 41 minutes and the Brathay Winderemere Marathon in 3 hours 56 minutes.

She said: "I had already signed up for the Manchester marathon before I got my place in the London Marathon so I ended up doing both of those with just a week between them. The London Marathon went really well and I didn't think it would at the beginning because I'd done Manchester seven days before.
"The Brathay marathon went really well too - I was chuffed with my time as it was a challenging course. My friends and family probably think I'm crazy!"

Amy decided to fundraise for the Hospice in memory of her grandma Eileen Hayes, who passed away on December 10th, 2014 aged 66 from secondary lung cancer.

"As a family we know what it feels like to watch a close relative suffer from a terminal illness, and the heart ache that comes along with it," said Amy. "The hospice supports people just like my grandma, either in the hospice or across the community in their own homes or care homes. ThehHospice makes a real difference to the patient's life, to their family, and the people around them."

Amy, who is aiming to raise £750 for the Hospice, can be sponsored at:
