A VOLUNTEER has won the Hospice’s top weekly lottery jackpot of £1,000.

Volunteer scoops the jackpot

Margaret Hackett, 63, from Winstanley won the prize in the draw held on Friday, January 16th.

The former shop worker has been playing the Hospice lottery for ten years and has enjoyed several £10 wins over the years.

She said: "I saw I had a letter from the Hospice and thought I'd won £10 again. I'd just been into Wigan in the morning and was on my own when I opened the letter and saw the cheque. I was jumping and jumping up and down when I saw it was for £1,000.
"I know a few people who work at the Hospice, I volunteer there too and I thought playing the lottery was a good way to support the Hospice."

Margaret volunteers to help prepare the buffet for the annual Volunteers' Party which is attended by over 200 of the Hospice's volunteers.

Over the last six years Margaret has also given her time to help out at the Light for a Life switch-on ceremony helping members of the public find the dedication they have made to their loved ones in the Book of Dedications.

Margaret has not yet decided how she plans to spend her windfall.

Maxine Armstrong, Fundraising and Lottery Manager, said: "I'm so happy for Margaret, she is always happy to help out at the Hospice and is a truly deserving winner.
"The Hospice has to raise around £7,400 every day to continue running our services and the lottery is a vital part of our income."

Some 30 guaranteed prizes ranging from £10 to £1,000 are won in the Hospice's lottery every week. To join visit www.wlh.org.uk and download an application form or email: lottery@wlh.org.uk
