Hospice patient donates artwork as thank you

10 May 2016

Two stunning paintings of coastal landscapes were donated to the Hospice by a patient as a thank you for his care.

John Williams (71), from Winstanley, who sadly passed away earlier this month, decided he wanted to donate the framed pieces, which he painted in 1994, four years after taking up the hobby. In more recent years, John painted and sold many painting of naval battleships.

At the time of donating the artwork, John said: "Coming to the Hospice was the best move I ever made. Everyone I have come across, at all levels, has really listened to me and so I just wanted to give something back. The paintings will either be on display at the Hospice or may even be auctioned off to raise money. I'm so pleased to be able to offer them something in return for everything they have done for me."

Christine Edwardson, Community Fundraiser at Wigan and Leigh Hospice, said: "John was a very generous man and a very gifted painter. We were privileged to meet him and delighted to receive these paintings from him.

"We would like to thank John's family for kindly agreeing for us to publish this following the very sad news that John has now passed away."
