Love was in the air at Wigan and Leigh Hospice on Friday (24th June) as one of its patients, Jason Kelly (52), married his first love, Michelle Burke.

The couple tied the knot in the Hospice's Reflection Room, which staff and a team of volunteers decorated for the occasion to give Jason and Michelle a very special day.

Jason and Michelle, from Beech Hill in Wigan, rekindled their love five years ago after they first met over 31 years ago.

Jason is living with advanced liver cancer and had been in the Inpatient Unit at the Hospice for several days in the run up to the wedding.

Twenty-two of their closest family and friends came along to the Hospice to see Jason and Michelle tie the knot and sign the marriage register.

On the day of the wedding, Michelle said: "We've talked about getting married for a long time but just haven't got round to it. I can't put in to words how we both feel about finally being man and wife. We've had a fantastic day and the Hospice really has made our dream come true."

Jo Carby, Director of Clinical Services at Wigan and Leigh Hospice, said: "We are very privileged to have been able to help Jason and Michelle to make their dream come true. Our staff and volunteers really pulled out all the stops to give them and their loved ones a very special memory which they will treasure forever."
