Lowton fundraisers donate to Hospice

ORGANISERS of the Lowton Charity Ball have donated the proceeds from this year’s event to Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

The 10th ball held in May at The Rose Centre in Lowton raised £2,018.32p for the Hospice.

The group started as a parent and teacher group raising money for local primary school Lowton St Mary's.

The group held 9 fundraising balls for the primary school but once their children grew up and left the school the group - Julie McMillan, Peter Dugdale, Clair Broomhead, Nathan Wilson and Natalie Neild - decided to carry on fundraising and hold another ball.

Peter Dugdale said: "We enjoy putting the ball and we wanted to carry on doing it. We wanted to raise money for a local charity and when we all thought about it we thought there was nothing better than to raise money for the hospice."

Katie Stevenson, Community Fundraiser for the Hospice, said: "This is a fantastic achievement and we are thrilled that the organisers of Lowton Charity Ball have decided to donate to the Hospice. On behalf of the patients and staff I would like to say a huge thank you to them for their support."
