Mayor to join hundreds of Hospice riders

04 July 2016

Hundreds of Wigan and Leigh Hospice supporters, including the Mayor of Wigan, Cllr Ron Conway, are preparing for a 63 mile ride to raise funds for the charity.

The Mayor and over 230 people from Wigan and Leigh will be cycling from Manchester to Blackpool this Sunday (10th July).

MAYOR TO JOIN HUNDREDS OF HOSPICE RIDERS

The ride starts at Old Trafford and finishes on the South Promenade at Blackpool where riders will be rewarded with a medal and well-earned rest.

The Hospice also provides it's riders with refreshment stops en route, in Aspull and Preston, giving them a pie-fuelled rest, in true Wigan style, before they continue on their way.

Christine Edwardson, Community Fundraiser, said: "The bike ride is always a fantastic occasion and we're thrilled that so many people are going to be riding for the Hospice this year, including the Mayor who has also ridden for the Hospice in previous years.

"Our riders will be well supported by our back-up vehicles and we'll make sure our riders are well-fed and watered along the way.

"We are very grateful to all our riders for their support. Every penny raised will make a significant difference to the lives of local people living with a life-limiting condition across our borough."
