Taking to the skies for Wigan & Leigh Hospice

Reece's Grandma was cared for by Wigan & Leigh Hospice

In September 2025, 16-year-old fundraiser Reece is taking on the ultimate challenge – a Sky Dive to raise money for Wigan & Leigh Hospice! He is doing this in memory of his Grandma, Slyvia. Here is his story.

“I have decided to take on the Sky Dive this September in memory of my Grandma who passed away in January 2019 after being cared for by the hospice.

My Grandma was diagnosed with Leukaemia and had a bone marrow transplant prior to being cared for by the hospice, and she spent her last 3 weeks in the Inpatient Unit.

We have lovely memories of my Grandma’s time in the Inpatient Unit. I remember being able to have picnics in her room and we created special memories with her before she passed away.

The nurses and doctors who looked after my Grandma were brilliant and made her feel very comfortable. I am taking on my fundraising challenge to show my gratitude for their kindness and care.

I have raised £417 for the hospice so far and I am over the moon with the amount. I have raised this through selling football cards in exchange for donations, and I have asked family members and friends to help me out.

I am so excited for my Sky Dive and can’t wait for the big day to arrive!”
