Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a well-established charity which has been operating since 1983. We provide a wide range of palliative care services to people with advancing life-limiting illnesses of any diagnosis and to those people important to them. The support we offer is tailored to meet individuals’ physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs
Many services provided by Wigan & Leigh Hospice are dependent on the goodwill of our generous volunteers.
Volunteers benefit from help towards bus fare and can apply for a Blue Light Card after their probation period.
Volunteer Shop Assistant
(10 locations across Wigan and Leigh)
About the role
Our charity shops are run by a team of committed volunteers who give their time and skills to raise vital funds for the hospice.
We’re looking for Volunteer Shop Assistants who are approachable and friendly, with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
In return, you’ll be offered support and training to do the job, as well as the opportunity to be part of a brilliant team who really make a difference.
A typical day might involve sorting and pricing donated stock, assisting customers with their purchases, serving on the till, as well as ensuring the shop is well presented and welcoming to customers to help to bring in a much income as possible to support the hospice.
We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum of a half day shift per week. The shifts may vary slightly by shop but are generally 9.30am – 12.30pm & 12.30pm – 3.30pm. More detailed information on shop locations and opening times can be found at the our shops section of this website.
The current locations and shifts we are looking to fill are:
Pemberton – Wednesday afternoons
Standish – Friday afternoons & Saturday mornings
Golborne – Saturday Mornings
Leigh Bradshawgate – Monday – Friday afternoons
Tyldesley – Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings & afternoons
Atherton – Monday – Friday afternoons
Hindley – Wednesday afternoons and Thursday & Friday all day
