Celebrating 40 years of care at Wigan & Leigh Hospice Gala Ball

The local community got on their glad rags and came together on Saturday 25 November to raise more than £45,000 for Wigan & Leigh Hospice.

Around 350 guests came along to the DW Stadium to show their support for the hospice.

Special guests included Mayoress Samantha Lloyd, members of the Wigan Council and Wigan Warriors players Tyler Dupree and Tiaki Chan.

The evening’s entertainment included music from local singer Annabelle Mather, Olivia Garcia from The X Factor 2016 and local favourite Tom Byrom & The Players Club.

Chief Executive of Wigan & Leigh Hospice, Jo Carby, said:

“There are very few people in Wigan and Leigh who won’t know someone who has been supported by the hospice. Our services are special and that’s why it’s so important we protect them.

“We are so grateful to everyone who came along to the ball and helped us to raise such a phenomenal amount of money. Without this support we simple wouldn’t exist.”

Every year the hospice must raise two thirds of its costs – more than £4million – to keep its services running. This means £12,000 must be raised through fundraising per day. Events like the Gala Ball help to generate this income.

Every donation received goes towards covering the cost of the support the Hospice provides to patients and their loved ones.
