Wigan & Leigh Hospice have been nominated for two awards in the Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards 2023, the Collaboration Award category and Innovation award category.
The awards are organised by the NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care and are the only Greater Manchester-wide awards to recognise members of our paid and unpaid workforce who regularly go above and beyond to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Greater Manchester.
Our Clinical Lead, Denise Williams, has been nominated for the Innovation category for her work as part of our WHISPAR (Wigan Healthier partnership Specialist Palliative care Acute Response) project. This is a collaboration between palliative care services across the borough to streamline access to palliative care and provide one point of access for patients ensuring the right service is in place to provide the right support at the right time. Denise has been the driving force behind the projects progress which includes the introduction of daily meetings involving all palliative care provider services. At the meetings referrals are prioritised and services allocated to meet the patients’ needs
The WHISPAR Hospice team was also nominated in the Collaboration award category, recognising their implementation of a truly collaborative initiative, involving NHS, community and other charities providing support to patients and their families.

“We know things are tough for our health and care workers right now – and it is more important than ever that we champion the work they do right across Greater Manchester. I’m thrilled the Health and Care Champion Awards are back, and in person, so we can come together to show our appreciation and thanks for the many individuals and teams who work so hard to care for others.”
This is the fourth year of the awards, with a record 530 plus nominations submitted by the people of Greater Manchester.
All nominations have already been shortlisted, and the award ceremony will be held in person on the evening of 13th October.
