Kim's family friend Geoff was cared for by Wigan & Leigh Hospice
In April 2025, fantastic Wigan & Leigh Hospice fundraiser Kim is taking on the Manchester Marathon in memory of dear family friend Geoff, who was cared for by the Hospice earlier this year. Here is her story.
“My name is Kim, I’m 26 and from Westleigh. In April 2025 I will be running in the Manchester Marathon to raise funds for Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
In October 2023, I decided to do the Manchester Half Marathon for a local charity that supports children and their families living with Autism. My 5-year-old son was diagnosed with Autism in January 2024 and was on the Autism Pathway at the time I did the Half Marathon, so it was and is a cause very close to my heart.
Prior to the Half Marathon I had not done any running since doing cross country in primary school, and now I am gearing up to take on the ultimate challenge, the Manchester Marathon. I am a spontaneous person and this showed when making this decision – I booked on very late one evening right before the allocation sold out!
I have decided to run the marathon for Wigan & Leigh Hospice after the sad passing of Geoff, a dear family friend and best friend to my husband Gary. The least I can do is take on this challenge in his memory. The challenging 8 months ahead of training are going to be so worth it if we can raise as much as possible.
I know that the hospice help so many people in our area and I’m a firm believer in supporting local causes in any way that we can.”
