The Hospice In Your Care Home service at Wigan and Leigh Hospice has been nominated in the national Nursing Times Awards 2018.
The work of the team has been shortlisted for the Enhancing Patient Dignity category.
Hospice In Your Care Home has been a regular presence in 11 local nursing homes throughout Wigan and Leigh over the last 3 years, working closely with their staff.
The team provide education and support in palliative and end of life care to equip nursing home staff with the practical skills and knowledge needed to provide sensitive, timely and compassionate end of life care for their residents. The aim is to enhance patient choice and avoid unnecessary admissions into hospital.
As part of the shortlisting process the team will be giving a presentation to the Awards judging committee on September 19th and will find out on October 31st whether or not they have won.
