Emma's Mum was cared for by Wigan & Leigh Hospice

In June 2025, amazing fundraisers Emma and Daniel are taking on a Sky Dive to raise money for Wigan & Leigh Hospice, in memory of Emma’s much loved Mum, Carol Ann. Here is her story.
Being introduced to the Hospice
“Mum was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal kidney cancer last Christmas, that spread to her liver. It was the biggest shock for everyone. I found out that I was pregnant two days before Mum received her diagnosis and it became her aim to make it to meet the baby, so she decided to receive treatment to prolong her life.
We were first introduced to the hospice in July 2024, when my Mum was admitted to hospital. She had become very unsafe on her feet and was offered a place on their Inpatient Unit.
Her granddaughter Ophelia was born in August and spent the majority of her first few weeks of life at the hospice making precious memories with Mum.
Mum spent the rest of her life at the hospice after leaving the hospital and she sadly passed away on the in September 2024. The hospice gave my Mum the peace she deserved when she needed it the most. She was comfortable and safe, and the staff ensured we all felt at home and had access to the emotional support we needed. We couldn’t have coped without their help in those last few weeks and we will be forever grateful to every staff member.”
Memories of Mum
“My Mum was one in a million. She was my best friend, a loving wife and an unbelievable Mum to both myself and her son Craig. She was incredibly loyal and had a larger-than-life personality, she was always laughing! She was a beautiful person both inside and out and fought hard until the very end. She is massively missed.
Each year, in my Mum’s memory, I would like to give something back to the hospice as a thank you for being there for us at the most difficult time. This year I have chosen to do a tough challenge, a sky dive! Without fundraising, the hospice would not be able to continue providing the same great care to all of their patients that they gave to us.”
