Wigan Borough Business Awards ‘Charity of the Year’ Winners 2024

We are thrilled to announce we are the Wigan Borough Business Awards ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2024.

Jo Carby, CEO, Clare Cooke, Director of Business Development, Lindsey Butler, Fundraising and Community Engagement Manager and Amy Jones, Corporate and Major Donor Fundraiser were delighted to accept this incredible recognition at the awards ceremony on Saturday 28 September at The Brick Community Stadium.

The judging panel said,

“We are delighted to crown Wigan & Leigh Hospice the winners who play an integral role in the lives of so many. Graded as outstanding by the CQC and it’s easy to see why. What’s more is that this charity has a strong history of supporting marginalised groups and by building on the successful care home education and support model, a supportive care register was developed ensuring people who are experiencing homelessness are still able to access palliative care as they approach the end of their life.”

The award was brought back to the hospice to share with the entire team, as it is the work everyone does every day that impressed the judges and helped clinch the award.

CEO Jo Carby said,

“We were in a short-list with some incredible local charities, all dedicated to making the lives of the people of Wigan Borough better, so it was an absolute honour to receive the award on behalf of the hospice. For me, this award is a recognition of how far we’ve come over the past couple of years. It recognises, despite our challenges, that we never stop doing all we can to innovate and improve – making sure we’re offering the best possible palliative and end of life services to the people of this borough.”

Whether it’s looking after people in our Inpatient Unit, caring for them in their own homes, supporting loved ones after a bereavement or training other care providers in the borough; every single person makes such a difference. And none of this is possible without our volunteers and supporters, who give their time and money to keep our services running.

This is an incredible achievement for ‘Team Hospice’. You can see the award now in our hospice reception area.
