Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a well-established charity which has been operating since 1983. We provide a wide range of palliative care services to people with advancing life-limiting illnesses of any diagnosis and to those people important to them. The support we offer is tailored to meet individuals’ physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs.

Many services provided by Wigan & Leigh Hospice are dependent on the goodwill of our generous volunteers.

Hospice In Your Home Companion Volunteers

About the role
We are looking to appoint a number of volunteers to support our Hospice In Your Home team to visit patients in their own homes. We have a high demand for chaperones for our male patients at the moment.

As a Hospice In Your Home volunteer you will provide breaks for carers, and companionship as well as practical and emotional support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families at their homes.

The role requires caring, empathetic and compassionate individuals who ensure confidentiality, respect and dignity whilst being an excellent listener. You must be able to travel independently for this role also.

Full training will be provided, as well as regular support meetings with the Hospice in your home team.

We are looking for a weekly commitment of a minimum of 2 hours per week, days and times to be arranged according to need.
