Author makes Hospice donation

Billy Halliwell, 60, is selling copies of his book War and Pits priced at £4 but is donating £1 from every sale to the Hospice in memory of his dad Harold who was cared for on the Inpatient Unit earlier this year.
The book tells the story of Joe from Wigan and his personal journey from fighting in World War 1 through working in the mines and having a family.
Billy said: "A lot of books are from an officer's point of view not from a man who is in the trenches or down the pit.
"My story starts off with a youthful apprentice working with an old fellow down the pit and they get chatting about his experiences. The story goes through to the 1926 strike and the tough times in the 1930s and his experiences in the Second World War. It's based on local stories which I have heard and some of them I've made up. "
Billy started writing his book five years ago and after help with editing from a friend published his book in July.
War and Pits can be purchased for £4 from the Hospice fundraising team or from Standish Media by emailing: info@courier-online.net.
